In With the Old

Today I had the pleasure of attending the Fashion Group International of Detroit, Inc. tribute luncheon with Shannon Lazovski of Glamorous Moms & Detroit Fashion News. I was excited to be able to be in a room full of stylish & notable people from all over the Metro Detroit area.

Alright, now let's talk about the outfit. I knew that there were going to be some important people at the luncheon today, so I had to make sure I looked just as good as I knew they were going to. After tearing up my room trying to find something nice to wear, and wishing I had the time (and money) to buy a whole new wardrobe, I finally decided on taupe jogger-style pants, a gray top, a blush cropped blazer, and black pointed-toe heels.

My New Favorite Jeans

I hate wearing pants. I've always been curvy, so jeans shopping was never my favorite activity. It always seemed like no matter what I did or where I went, the jeans I tried on would be one of many things: too tight, too baggy, too long, uncomfortable, or just plain ugly.

That was until I got to high school and my mom gifted me with a pair of Levi's that may as well had been made specifically for me. Finally, my denim prayers had been answered! They were a standard rise mid-wash with distressing in the knee. Oh, how I loved them. When I wasn't rocking a skirt or a dress, I wore those jeans with just about every top that I owned. They were even one of the first things I packed with me when I was getting ready to head off to my first year of college.

Then, the nightmare happened: I ripped my pants.

What I've Been Up To

I know I've been gone for a while, but I've been doing some pretty cool things in the process. From January to April, I was working as the intern for Michigan Fashion Week's first Fashion Summit which was held on April 16th at the A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education. I was responsible for keeping the Michigan Fashion Week Twitter account updated, and helping out with other promotional tasks.

DressCoat

When the going gets tough, you just gotta take a trench coat and turn it into a dress. Sounds odd, right? I know, but desperate times call for innovative measures!

Saturday was such a busy day, I went to work then rushed to a bridal shower right after! I can't remember the last time I had been to a bridal shower (or if I had ever been to one) before this one, but I know one thing was for sure: I had no clue on what to wear.

What Would Michelle Obama Wear?

Adulting can be hard. Can I just go back to kindergarten when my only worries were catching the latest episode of Blue's Clues and playing dress up?

I had an interview today at General Motors (GM) for a Digital Chat Advisor position. My past few interviews have been for retail jobs, so of course I was able to dress more trendy. Obviously today was a change of pace, so I had to put my professional face on.

Whenever I have to get dressed up, I usually think, WWMOW. What Would Michelle Obama Wear? The First Lady always looks so classy and put-together, so I try to channel her poise and confidence with my dressier 'fits. Now while my look may not have cost nearly as much as hers, I think it was a pretty good adaptation!

Neutral

Today has been pretty interesting, and it's not even halfway over yet!

I had my interview at Willys earlier this afternoon. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to work both there & at my current job, so I'm just going to stay where I'm at. I'm still waiting to hear back from some other places, though, so keep your fingers crossed for me!

For the interview, I decided on a taupe colored dress and a printed poncho sweater from H&M. Thank God I still had money left on my H&M gift card from Christmas, or else I would've had to leave this baby on the rack. The necklace is my Mom's. Her jewelry game is SO much better than mine, and it just so happened that this one matched perfectly with my outfit.

Bargain Baddie

I've been in a pretty good mood these past few days. Maybe it's the weather, or maybe it's because I'm back to blogging on a consistent basis. Whatever it is, I like it.

I had a job interview today at Club Monaco. If you read my previous post, then you already know about how I've only been hearing back about sales associate positions. But I've accepted that this is my truth (for now, anyway), and I'm gonna keep it moving.

Little Victories

Today was a great day! As (some of) you guys know, I'm not new to the sales associate life. I've been working retail jobs on and off since 2012. A month ago, I was totally over working in a clothing store. I was sick of it! So naturally, I started applying for office jobs that were more geared toward journalism & communications. Out of the countless and redundant applications I've filled out, I've had no such luck!

Free Time

Now that I've graduated, I have quite a bit of free time on my hands. During my four & a half years of school, I dreamt about the moment when I wouldn't be swamped with homework and projects. I imagined that I'd spend my days being fabulous and running "important" errands, and that I'd be in bed before midnight every night. Welp, that's not the case.
