Last month I happened to be scrolling down my Instagram feed when I saw one of my sheroes, Teen Vogue Editor-in-Chief Elaine Welteroth, post a video about the new Teen Vogue Summit in LA this December. After watching Elaine talk about how amazing the Summit is going to be, I immediately clicked the link in her bio to check out the cost of the tickets. Now, as a two-time Teen Vogue Fashion University alumna, I don't know why I was surprised to see that the Summit is pretty pricy, but I let out a little gasp anyway for dramatic effect.
Read MoreI've been a government employee for a week now! Lol. A lot of you have been asking me how the new job is going so far, and I would like to start off by saying, thanks for asking! Everything is going pretty well. I know it's only been a week, but I like this new gig quite a bit already. I mean, I no longer have to pay for parking, so how could it get any better?!
Read MoreSince I've been waiting for my new job to officially start, I've been spending a lot of time in front of the television. One of my favorite things to watch as of late is FX's Atlanta, which comes on Tuesdays at 10 p.m.
The show was created, directed and produced by Donald Glover (a.k.a. Childish Gambino). Glover also stars in the show as Earnest "Earn" Marks, a down-on-his-luck, socially-awkward guy trying to manage his cousin's rap career.
In the show, Earn has an on-again, off-again love interest named Vanessa, who is played by actress Zazie Beetz. Since the show started, I've been loving Vanessa's easy-breezy boho style. It's so effortless, and I'm dying to know where some of her pieces are from!
Read MoreOne-hundred fifty-eight...that's how many days it's been since my last blog post. Shame, isn't it? For someone that wants to make a career out of fashion blogging/fashion journalism, how dare I fall off so tremendously?
I could give you guys (and myself) an excuse as to why I hadn't been keeping up with Damsel in Detroit like I should've been. I could tell you all about how I was working six days a week, how I didn't have anything cute to wear for pictures, how I didn't know what to write about — but all of those aren't good enough reasons.
Read MoreI hate wearing pants. I've always been curvy, so jeans shopping was never my favorite activity. It always seemed like no matter what I did or where I went, the jeans I tried on would be one of many things: too tight, too baggy, too long, uncomfortable, or just plain ugly.
That was until I got to high school and my mom gifted me with a pair of Levi's that may as well had been made specifically for me. Finally, my denim prayers had been answered! They were a standard rise mid-wash with distressing in the knee. Oh, how I loved them. When I wasn't rocking a skirt or a dress, I wore those jeans with just about every top that I owned. They were even one of the first things I packed with me when I was getting ready to head off to my first year of college.
Then, the nightmare happened: I ripped my pants.
Read MoreI know I've been gone for a while, but I've been doing some pretty cool things in the process. From January to April, I was working as the intern for Michigan Fashion Week's first Fashion Summit which was held on April 16th at the A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education. I was responsible for keeping the Michigan Fashion Week Twitter account updated, and helping out with other promotional tasks.

Saturday was such a busy day, I went to work then rushed to a bridal shower right after! I can't remember the last time I had been to a bridal shower (or if I had ever been to one) before this one, but I know one thing was for sure: I had no clue on what to wear.

I had an interview today at General Motors (GM) for a Digital Chat Advisor position. My past few interviews have been for retail jobs, so of course I was able to dress more trendy. Obviously today was a change of pace, so I had to put my professional face on.
Whenever I have to get dressed up, I usually think, WWMOW. What Would Michelle Obama Wear? The First Lady always looks so classy and put-together, so I try to channel her poise and confidence with my dressier 'fits. Now while my look may not have cost nearly as much as hers, I think it was a pretty good adaptation!
Read MoreToday has been pretty interesting, and it's not even halfway over yet!
I had my interview at Willys earlier this afternoon. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to work both there & at my current job, so I'm just going to stay where I'm at. I'm still waiting to hear back from some other places, though, so keep your fingers crossed for me!
For the interview, I decided on a taupe colored dress and a printed poncho sweater from H&M. Thank God I still had money left on my H&M gift card from Christmas, or else I would've had to leave this baby on the rack. The necklace is my Mom's. Her jewelry game is SO much better than mine, and it just so happened that this one matched perfectly with my outfit.

Even though this weather is strange, I took advantage of the sun peeking out of the clouds and decided to snap some pics with my new tripod. Woo hoo!
