#ProjectYouToday is Liz Louize's body positivity campaign that encourages women to celebrate who they are in this exact moment. Far too often, women hold themselves back from things out of fear of not being "thin enough," "pretty enough," "smart enough," the list goes on and on. We set these unattainable expectations for ourselves, knowing that they are unreasonable and farfetched, and then tear down our self-esteem when those "goals" are not reached. Maya Angelou once said, "You alone are enough, you have nothing to prove to anybody." As women, we need to remember and understand this. We are all on this earth to serve a purpose. We are beautiful, inside and out, and we should not wait until that "perfect moment" to start enjoying our lives.

I ended up ordering a pair of pants, two tops, and most favorite piece: an oatmeal-colored suede coat with a pastel pink lining.

t will carry me into 2018. Read MoreLast month I happened to be scrolling down my Instagram feed when I saw one of my sheroes, Teen Vogue Editor-in-Chief Elaine Welteroth, post a video about the new Teen Vogue Summit in LA this December. After watching Elaine talk about how amazing the Summit is going to be, I immediately clicked the link in her bio to check out the cost of the tickets. Now, as a two-time Teen Vogue Fashion University alumna, I don't know why I was surprised to see that the Summit is pretty pricy, but I let out a little gasp anyway for dramatic effect.
Read MoreI turned 24 on July 1. As I stated in my last post, I usually host a birthday dinner with my friends to celebrate me turning a year older. But this year I wanted to switch things up. Not only did I have afternoon tea with my girls to celebrate my big day, but I also took a trip to New Orleans for the Essence Festival with one of my besties, Bailey.
Read MoreThere is not enough time in the day – or so it seems. Lately I've been feeling like I can't possibly accomplish everything I want in a mere 24 hours. Talk about impossible!
I'm sure there's a lot of you busy bees out there that feel the same way as me. But I have a sad revelation for y'all (read: us): what if we're just really bad at managing our time?
Read MoreSince I've been waiting for my new job to officially start, I've been spending a lot of time in front of the television. One of my favorite things to watch as of late is FX's Atlanta, which comes on Tuesdays at 10 p.m.
The show was created, directed and produced by Donald Glover (a.k.a. Childish Gambino). Glover also stars in the show as Earnest "Earn" Marks, a down-on-his-luck, socially-awkward guy trying to manage his cousin's rap career.
In the show, Earn has an on-again, off-again love interest named Vanessa, who is played by actress Zazie Beetz. Since the show started, I've been loving Vanessa's easy-breezy boho style. It's so effortless, and I'm dying to know where some of her pieces are from!
Read MoreMy dad turned 60 this September, guys. SIXTY. I don't know why that's so hard for me to believe! I don't tell him this very often, but my daddy is pretty great. He's probably the most selfless person that I know. He's always helping out other people, and is always on the move, even when he's only running off of a few hours of sleep.
Since he does so much for everyone, it was only right that we threw him a big party to celebrate this milestone! Earlier this month, family and friends gathered at the North Rosedale Community Center for a night of dinner, dancing and fellowship. We all had a ball!
Read MoreOne-hundred fifty-eight...that's how many days it's been since my last blog post. Shame, isn't it? For someone that wants to make a career out of fashion blogging/fashion journalism, how dare I fall off so tremendously?
I could give you guys (and myself) an excuse as to why I hadn't been keeping up with Damsel in Detroit like I should've been. I could tell you all about how I was working six days a week, how I didn't have anything cute to wear for pictures, how I didn't know what to write about — but all of those aren't good enough reasons.
Read MoreToday I had the pleasure of attending the Fashion Group International of Detroit, Inc. tribute luncheon with Shannon Lazovski of Glamorous Moms & Detroit Fashion News. I was excited to be able to be in a room full of stylish & notable people from all over the Metro Detroit area.
Alright, now let's talk about the outfit. I knew that there were going to be some important people at the luncheon today, so I had to make sure I looked just as good as I knew they were going to. After tearing up my room trying to find something nice to wear, and wishing I had the time (and money) to buy a whole new wardrobe, I finally decided on taupe jogger-style pants, a gray top, a blush cropped blazer, and black pointed-toe heels.
