It's My Workaversary!
It's been a full 365 days since I took on the role of the Digital & Social Media Associate for the City of Detroit. This calls for cupcakes! (Chocolate, please.) I know I've been saying this a lot lately, but time really does fly! I remember how anxious and excited I was when I first started. I was just so happy to finally be working in a field where I could utilize my journalism degree! I had been working various retail jobs for some time, and I was ready for the change.
I really do love my job. I have some really phenomenal and talented colleagues, and I've gotten to experience so many things firsthand that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to do if I were working somewhere else (like take a tour of a private jet, go to a red carpet movie premiere, get free food at press events, lol). This job has challenged me to think creatively, communicate effectively, and how to work better with a team. I've learned a ton in such a short amount of time. Of course, like any employed person, there are some itty bitty things that I wish I could change, but overall, I truly believe that I have the best job in the city!
Believe it or not, this is the longest amount of time I've spent at one job. I had quite a few internships when I was in undergrad, and I already told you all how many times I switched companies post graduation, so this is really new for me, lol. I actually started feeling a little antsy a few weeks ago because I couldn't believe that a year had passed with me being in this position. I even started asking myself, "Do I need to find something else to do?" Old thoughts die hard, I guess.
I'm beyond grateful for the things I've done and people I've met thus far. It's such an honor to get to get useful (and exciting) information out to other residents on a daily basis. This job falls right in line with what I said I wanted to do when I finished school: help make a difference in the city that is so near and dear to my heart.
We're only two months in, but 2018 has already been great so far. I've been feeling so much more inspired to do different things and to reach new heights. I'm not sure what '18 will bring into fruition in regard to work, but I'm sure whatever it is will be even more amazing than this past year.
